How to Work with Sage for Emotional Clearing

Sage is traditionally used in Native American ceremonies because it is regarded as an excellent cleanser. The smoke being released from Sage when burned is what's considered cleansing. The word Sage translates to Healing and has been said to promote wisdom and grace as well.

When we use Sage to “smudge” or cleanse an area, person, or thing, we are clearing out any negative energies and neutralizing the energy.

So why is it important to use Sage to regularly “smudge”? It’s important because we are always picking up, collecting, and releasing energy from elsewhere. By using Sage, we are protecting ourselves from picking up energy that can be negative or hinder us.

If we do not use Sage to regularly “smudge” we are living with stagnant energy that can be negative or hold painful emotions. If we don’t cleanse the energy, we will continue to invite in energy that is not meant for us.

Sage helps neutralize any floating emotions and invite in only love and light.

So when is it a good time to “smudge” and how should this process look? We like to say, anytime is a good time to “smudge”! Because Sage is such a powerful tool, it can be used virtually anywhere and anytime to create a clean slate of energy.

Working with Sage is particularly beneficial when it comes to an emotional clearing. As we know, we can pick up energy from anywhere at any time. This can cause us to take on energy that isn’t ours and inturn feel negative, confused, worried, drained, or fearful.

Therefore, it’s important to create a ritual where we use this powerful tool to clear and prevent any negative energies from entering our emotional space.

Here's what you will need:

~Sage Herb (Earth)

~A Feather (Air)

~Smoke (Fire)

~A Shell (Water)

Next you will need:

~To clear your mind and focus on what you are doing, which is emotional clearing.

~” Concentrate on your intent, and take your time; cleansing is not something to be rushed.”

Start the process by:

~Lighting the Sage

~Using the feather to waft the smoke over and around oneself

~Holding the shell under the Sage to catch any falling embers

“The inclusion of these aspects (Four Elements: Earth, Air, Fire, and Water) enhances the ritual of the cleansing process, adding an extra dimension.”

We hope this encourages you to work with Sage for emotional clearing and cleansing all around! How do you work with Sage? Share your rituals with us!

Much love & light,

Sarah Del Rey
