Medicinal Herb Spotlight: Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is an incredible plant! Most commonly found in India and North Africa. The berries and roots are used to make powerful medicine.

“Ashwagandha is one of the most important herbs in Ayurveda, a form of alternative medicine based on Indian principles of natural healing. ... "Ashwagandha" is Sanskrit for "smell of the horse," which refers to both its unique smell and ability to increase strength.”

This powerful herb is considered an adaptogen, which means it can stabilize the physiological process and promote homeostasis in the mind and body. It’s great in helping the body manage stress!

In Indian culture, Ashwagandha has been used for over 3,000 years as a way to “relieve stress, increase energy levels and improve concentration”. Many other health benefits come along with consuming Ashwagandha and because of this, it has become a popular supplement in our modern society.

The most common way to consume this herb is by the root or leaf powder. We recommend using 1 to 2 teaspoons twice daily. You can mix the powder directly into water, a milk alternative, or honey. For this reason, Ashwagandha makes an incredible addition to any cacao drinks, smoothies, or teas! You can also buy Ashwagandha capsules and take the recommended dose daily!
