7 Natural Fertility Suggestions for Conceiving

As a Naturopathic Doctor and Retreat Leader, I often receive questions from women about fertility. Whether you're trying to conceive or if you're looking to start preparing your body to get pregnant, this blog post is for you!

I'm grateful to share 7 simple suggestions to help support your body during this time. Of course, I recommend working with your physician to ensure your body is supported fully.

These 7 suggestions may help to support your reproductive health, balance your hormones and make conception more likely.

7 Natural Fertility Suggestions to Conceive ~

Have a consistent sleep schedule

While it seems too simple, this is a big one! If you are trying to get pregnant, it's key to make sure that you have a consistent sleep schedule. Try to go to bed and wake up each day at the same time. You also want to make sure that you're getting at least 8 hours of sleep each night. I think we all understand the importance of sleep but often work late, go out for drinks until the wee hours of the morning, etc. but if you are really desiring to conceive, please make your sleep a priority!

I've seen women conceive after creating a more consistent sleep schedule or getting off of graveyard shifts. It can make a big difference.

Drink red raspberry leaf tea

Red raspberry leaf tea is perhaps the ultimate female tonic. This beautiful herb helps to tone the uterus, provide the body with the perfect ratio of iron and other minerals and strengthen the pelvic floor. This herb has been recommended by midwives for hundreds of years to help women get pregnant, maintain pregnancies and heal postpartum.

I recommend adding one cup of red raspberry leaf tea into your daily routine.

Consider vaginal steaming

Vaginal steaming is another practice that is thousands of years old and was traditionally passed down by midwives. Vaginal steaming helps to rebalance the pH of the vagina and support normal vaginal flora.

Adding vaginal steaming to your routine may be a great addition. I recommend steaming twice a month; once before your menstrual cycle begins and once after your menstrual cycle is complete.

Switch from regular pads and tampons to safer alternatives

Commercial pads and tampons contain a variety of toxic ingredients and go through questionable manufacturing processes. Many pads and tampons test positive for Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) as well as dioxins, mercury and xeno-estrogens. Switching to something more natural will help to ensure your hormones are not being manipulated each month. See a list of 5 alternatives here.

Balance your hormones with your diet

The food you eat has the potential to heal hormonal imbalances or cause them. Begin to eat plenty of healthy fats like coconut oil, avocado, olive oil, organic butter and ghee. Raw carrots have also been shown to balance hormones. See our list of 5 foods to consume daily for balanced hormones here.

Eliminate all artificial sugars and GMOs

This is a big one, folks! PLEASE throw away any and all artificial sugars and remove GMOs from your diet. Artificial sugars can be found in diet sodas, gum and even in "healthy" protein powders and workout supplements. Avoid ingredients like Sucralose and Aspartame. Do not use brands like Splenda, Nutrasweet, Sweet N' Low and Equal. Artificial sugars have been linked to a variety of health conditions, including infertility.

GMO foods should also be avoided. Opt for organic, local produce. Always purchase organic meat and dairy products too.

Trust that you will conceive

Trust that your little one will come to you when the timing is right. Gabrielle Bernstein recently shared her powerful story about getting pregnant that I highly recommend reading. Trust, and all things are coming.

If you'd like additional 1:1 support, you can set up a Naturopathic Consultation with Cassandra here. Consultations can be done in person and via online sessions.

With gratitude,
