Pisces season can bring out the best and the worst in us. This energy can inspire us to be extra compassionate, soulful, intuitive, open-minded, creative and empathic, and/or it can inspire us to neglect our healthy self-development practices, lose touch with our sense of self, abandon our boundaries, or lean into negative coping mechanisms and mental-emotional spirals. The Pisces new moon happens on Sunday, February 23rd at 10:32am EST. With this being Pisces season AND a new moon AND a Mercury retrograde, there are some challenges facing all of us in maintaining groundedness during this time.
Not only are the sun and moon in Pisces, but Mercury and Neptune as well; if you are feeling extra spacy, floaty or daydreamy, that’s why. Alternatively, we may be swimming in the depths of our emotions- or feeling extra sensitive and triggered by every little thing- and having a hard time getting our bearings. Ayurvedically, we’ve moved into Kapha season, which brings out the same compassionate and melancholic tendencies.
One trademark downfall of Pisces is the tendency to try to do big healing work out in the world as a way of bypassing the inner growth work that needs to be done first within the self. Are you standing in integrity with your own healing, boundary work, shadow work, and discontinuation of old cycles? Are you taking your own advice? Pisces naturally brings out the “empath,” “healer,” “psychic” and “intuitive” archetypes in all of us, and that’s great until it becomes more about making our egos feel good while we remain in old, unhelpful ways of being.
Thankfully, we have a lot of Capricorn energy to help balance us out- Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto are all in Capricorn. This encourages us to lean into structure, routine and a dedication to doing the work, all of which are key right now. Whatever your daily practice looks like- meditation, journaling, movement, morning routine - now is not the time to let yourself float away from it. With the new moon calling for even more introspection and ritual, can you actually step up that devotion? I recommend writing a letter to your inner child, making a list of the things you’re feeling right now- including and especially any insecurity narratives- or doing some form of grounding movement practice.
Mercury retrograde calls for us all to slow down and be extra mindful of our communication, decision-making and overall navigating through the world. Pisces energy is inherently inconsistent with communication and can sometimes lack integrity, and Mercury retrograde straight-up demands that we get extra clear and intentional about all of this. This is very much a time to focus on saying what you mean, meaning what you say, and asking for what you need. Another pertinent question to ask ourselves now: how can we stand unbothered by others’ opinions of us and be accountable when we are clinging to old ways of being/thinking that are causing harm?
There’s so much rich benefit to be taken from the astrology of this week if we focus our intention inward; big shadow work breakthroughs, psychic and intuitive growth, and connection to the most soulful parts of ourselves. We can take inventory of our energy- professional, familial, sexual, romantic, platonic, etc.- and how much is flowing to what and to whom. Boundary-building is our best friend here when a certain allocation of energy is not serving us.
Above all, this is a time to remember who you are. Put one foot in front of the other and stay connected to your full worth as you swim through the deep, swirling depths. Key concepts for doing this: routine, dedication, integrity, grounding, anchoring, and a slow n’ steady pace.
Three Ways to Keep your Ish Together Right Now:
1) Let yourself cry. Allow yourself to feel whatever is coming up, knowing that this may be key information for you to witness from the deep and hidden parts of your psyche
2) Take a ritual bath. Pisces loves water, and this intentional act of self-care can help ground you into your goddess energy and the overflowing, intrinsic worth of your full self
3) Don’t text your ex (am I calling myself out here? Maybe.) Instead, go to therapy, do a creative project or find a similarly healthy and appropriate way to process the things that are coming up
Happy New Moon. Take care of yourself, swim into those watery depths and come closer to who you truly are.
