Black Supermoon New Moon in Leo - Remember Who You Are

Happy New Moon, sister! We're honored to have Astrologer Katya Weiss-Andersson here on the GoddessCeremony Team sharing her astrology insights for this New Moon in Leo!

On July 23rd, we entered Leo season. In balance, Leo energy is regal, generous, fun, magnetic, bold, confident and the embodiment of a strong sense of self. Ungrounded and imbalanced Leo energy, on the other hand, constantly needs to be the center of attention, needs external validation, needs to be “right” and is overall ego-driven and draining (remember: it’s the ego that is bruised, ungrounded and insecure that compensates by appearing over-inflated.) Either way, Leo energy is unapologetically extra, and even the meteor showers in this week’s sky are on board.

This particular new moon is a black moon, which happens when there are two new moons in one month. It’s as if the cosmos knew that after two intense eclipses, we’d need a second moment of introspection to get ourselves re-grounded after all the crying (I mean, uhh, spiritual cleansing? No, I mean crying) that Cancer season brought us. We have a chance to take inventory of what we just learned and how we’re still growing.

Chiron, the Wounded Healer, is still in retrograde in Aries (more on that very potent and karmic event in our last astrology report.) Pluto, Neptune, Saturn and Jupiter are all still in retrograde as well. Mercury finally comes out of its retrograde on July 31st, but we’re likely to still feel the shadow of this retrograde for a few days. In other words, be wary of miscommunications, delays and glitches for a bit longer.

Mars, the ruler of conflict, sexuality, knee-jerk reactions and all things primal, joins the Sun in the sign of Leo. Be careful not to allow any insecurities in your own ego to explode into unnecessary conflict. Venus, the ruler of pleasure and relationships of all kinds, is in Leo as well- allow yourself to tap into generosity and magnanimity in how you relate to others.

Tomorrow is the traditional Pagan harvest celebration of Lammas, or Lughnasadh. You don’t have to be Pagan or of Celtic heritage to observe the beginning of your own harvest; did you set New Year’s resolutions, or other intentions earlier in the year? Check in with yourself to see where you’re reaping abundance in line with your intentions. It can help us to reset our frame of mind after so much inner turmoil.

Within the past couple days, the Sun squared off with Uranus, which gave us a jolt of angst and made it hard for many people to sleep on Sunday and Monday nights. This aspect made it crystal clear that we’re all in need of a reset, and this new moon is the time to find it.

The new moon is a time to take space, find stillness and tend to your own inner world. While we’re easing back out of the intensity we’ve been facing, there’s a lot of recalibration and checking in that needs to be done. If we take this time to re-ground, we’ll be able to get in the zone and live up the rest of the Summer vivaciously. We’ll be able to step even more boldly into ourselves and our authenticity, which is really all that Leo season asks of us.

How to celebrate this new moon:

1. Journal - I know we say it all the time, but it’s necessary to take a pen to paper to go over what different emotions, shadows and conflicts came up this past month, why you may still be feeling unsettled, and what you intuitively feel like you need. See what you can do to provide those necessities for yourself and journal about how you’d like to move forward.

2. Get in nature - If you can get out into nature and do some sort of harvesting- whether it be some wildflowers, blueberries from a u-pick farm or tomatoes from a friend’s tomato plant, connect to the spirit and gratitude of reaping what’s been growing all along.

3. Check in with your ego and your sense of self - Are you feeling insecure? Where are those insecurities coming from? Are you living as the most authentic version of who you are, or do you need to make some adjustments?

Take care of yourself with this New Moon. Rest, be still, look within and trust that it's just a phase.

With gratitude,
