Full Moon in Capricorn and Lunar Eclipse July 2019 - Duality and Deep Diving

Happy Full Moon, sister! We're honored to have Astrologer Katya Weiss-Andersson here on the GoddessCeremony Team sharing her astrology insights for this Full Moon in Capricorn!

Today, in the midst of Cancer season, we have our full moon in Capricorn paired with a partial lunar eclipse. There’s a lot of duality going on here; there’s the introverted focus and homebody energy of Cancer season and eclipse season contrasting the extroverted energy of the full moon. Cancer season and full moon energy are emotional, Capricorn energy is stoic. Full moon energy is wild, Capricorn energy is serious.

There’s so much going on astrologically that’s plunging us into our shadows and preventing us from going about business as usual. First off, we have six celestial bodies in retrograde. You’ve probably heard about the Mercury retrograde happening, if only because it’s already felt excruciatingly long. Lasting until July 31st, this retrograde has at this point got most of us questioning everything, including ourselves. Beyond the typical delays, technological glitches and miscommunications, this retrograde is making many of us feel unsure of our footing. It’s not you, it’s Mercury.

As a recap, a retrograde is a time to pause and re-evaluate the area(s) of your life governed by that particular celestial body. Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Pluto are all in retrograde as well as Mercury, but the retrograde that may be hitting us hardest is Chiron, the Wounded Healer. Chiron shows us the wounds we still need to tend to. These can be wounds from our childhood or any point in our lifetime, or ancestral trauma passed down through our bloodline. Chiron is in retrograde in the sign of Aries, which asks us to address these wounds boldly, directly and fearlessly instead of allowing ourselves to pass them on to others. Now is the time to pay attention to your triggers.

Eclipse season is already a time of intense shadow work, and this is magnified not only by the Chiron retrograde but the current proximity of Pluto to the Moon. The needs of the inner child and the subconscious layers of your being are not to be pushed aside right now. In dealing with all this, don’t feel shame about being confronted with old grief. Don’t impose timelines or judgments on when you’re “supposed” to be “over” old pain- it doesn’t work that way. Accept and understand the duality that sometimes you are moving on and feeling okay, and sometimes you are vividly aware that this grief is something you carry in your being.

Self-worth battles are also likely to come up right now- if these are battles you’ve fought before, don’t feel shame about having to re-visit them. Your previous work was not for nothing. The same goes for all sorts of work you’ve done to establish good daily habits- we are all being called to re-affirm our dedication to showing up with consistent presence and intention. Obsessive, toxic old narratives are coming up for many, and self-destructive choices feel more tempting than usual. To add to all this, there’s a sense of isolation going around- remember that the full moon is a time to connect with others. We can also dig into the Capricorn energy- not to get stoic, but to harness discipline in meeting the work we’re being called to do.

Just like two weeks ago, now is absolutely not the time for charging into confrontations. Mars square Uranus a few days ago had many of us feeling aggressive, and we may still need to find healthy ways to channel that aggression. Mars is currently in Leo, which is adding to the urge to potentially lash out and start conflicts; remember that processing your emotions, meditating and taking active self-inventory can help us to stay in our lane.

Amidst all this, the goddess archetype of Akhilandeshwari is especially inspiring. She is one of the forms of the Hindu goddess Parvati, and her name means “never not broken.” She serves as a reminder that as much as we may grow and learn and work on ourselves, it’s okay to still unexpectedly find ourselves in a heap on the kitchen floor.

Being human means constantly falling apart and putting yourself back together, which allows us to let go of pieces of ourselves that don’t serve us and build up stronger than we were before. It’s okay to feel messy right now. Messy > repressy.

-Here's Three Ways to Celebrate this Full Moon-

-Do something that feels like (healthy) catharsis. Do some splatter painting, go on a run with a great playlist, take a boxing class, etc. Exhilaration is your friend amidst all the seriousness and self-work.

-Talk with friends about what you’re going through to override any feelings of isolation, to support others and to find greater insight into what you’re dealing with. Just be sure to respect consent and boundaries, so that the people you’re turning to are people who can truly hold space for you in that moment.

-In the midst of all the personal challenges and retrograde-y glitches coming up, do something for others. The trauma that lives in my Jewish bloodline calls to implore you to care about the crisis at the border. I know that talking about human issues that are labeled “political” can be taboo in spiritual dialogues, but it is still Cancer season. There is still a current of nurturance and care for everybody to tap into. Please direct it where it’s needed so that “never again” can mean something, and so that mass ancestral trauma doesn’t have to be added into the bloodlines of so many.

Eclipses allow us to determine powerful changes, set them in motion and solidify them. They give us a boost of power like a star in Mario Kart. Retrogrades allow us to get out of auto-pilot and make sure our habits and choices are aligned with what we want. Full moons allow us to feel and express at full capacity. None of what’s going on astrologically is “bad”, but we are being humbled. The more you can accept your own never-not-brokenness with grace, the more you’ll be able to take from this season.

With gratitude,
