Healing with CBD and Plants
Using plant medicine to heal is something really special. The cannabis plant is an incredibly powerful healer that offers a variety of medical uses. An increasingly popular use is in the form of CBD.
CBD stands for Cannabidiol. “It is one of some 113 identified cannabinoids in cannabis plants and accounts for up to 40% of the plant's extract. As of 2018, preliminary clinical research on cannabidiol included studies of anxiety, cognition, movement disorders, and pain”.
CBD is extracted from the plant and is non-psychoactive. Meaning, it does not get you ‘high’ whereas other cannabinoids such as THC do. Rather, CBD serves as strictly medicinal.
“All cannabinoids, including CBD, produce effects in the body by attaching to certain receptors. ... CB1 receptors are present throughout the body, but many are in the brain. The CB1 receptors in the brain deal with coordination and movement, pain, emotions, and mood, thinking, appetite, and memories, and other functions”.
I find it pretty incredible that our bodies contain receptors that have the ability to positively benefit from this plant medicine. We all know the harmful side-effects that pharmaceuticals can cause. Some pharmaceuticals can be extremely addictive and result in death from overdose. So having the option to get relief from a nature source can be life changing.
CBD can be consumed orally or applied topically and comes in many forms such as oil tinctures, capsules, vapes, edibles, or topical creams. If you decide to go with a CBD oil tincture, it is recommended to use the dropper to administer the oil under the tongue and hold it there for 90 seconds before swallowing. This way of consuming CBD is one of the easiest options.
Not all CBDs are made the same and I speak in terms of ingredients and potency. It’s important to do the research and purchase from a certified and reputable source. After much of my own research, purchasing an organic full-spectrum hemp oil in 500 mg made the most sense for my situation. “Full-spectrum hemp oil contains dozens of cannabinoids. The most abundant cannabinoid found in hemp oil is Cannabidiol (CBD)”. And the milligrams deal with it’s potency and can range anywhere from 5-1,000 mgs.
Personally, I’ve seen the difference it’s made in the quality of my Father’s life. For someone who dealt with painful inflammation throughout the body, it has been a life changer and saver. His inflammation has reduced and pain subsided. Taking away the pain in a healthy nature way has been rewarding to witness. It encourages me to spread the knowledge of plant medicine healing.
If you’ve been curious about CBD, I highly recommend giving it a try! If you do, I also encourage you to stick with it, as the more consistent you are with it, the more benefits it will bring to your body!
Much love & light,
