Why I Ditched Coffee and How to Make a Delicious Matcha Latte

If you follow me on Instagram, you likely heard me share that a month ago I chose to quit coffee. While I was making a healthy bulletproof coffee each morning, I began noticing a few months ago that I didn't feel good after drinking it. I also felt an addiction forming as I reached for my cup of coffee each morning. Between the forming addiction and nausea each morning after drinking the coffee, I decided it was time to be done with coffee.

So on my birthday last month after a powerful meditation where I could feel my body urging me to give up coffee, I quit cold turkey. And I have felt SO good and energized ever since.

Especially in these colder months, I've craved something warm in the mornings and so I decided to give Matcha Lattes a try. I'll admit, I was incredibly skeptical. What is this weird green colored drink I was seeing on Instagram?

I decided to give it a try while in LA (because where better than LA to try something new and healthy, right?!) and I couldn't believe how delicious it was. I felt energized, grounded and happy each day when I enjoyed my Matcha Latte and found a new love for this delicious health drink.

Before long though, I was headed back home to Utah and realized that I needed to learn how to make my own matcha latte. After a lot of trial and error, I'm grateful to share my favorite recipe that I've created and some big no-nos if you want to avoid spending lots of money on different alternative milks that do no mesh will with matcha.

Nourishing and Healthy Matcha Latte Recipe

You'll need:

-1 tsp of matcha powder (I recommend this one on Amazon)

-2 cups of milk (I HIGHLY recommend oat milk, read more below*)

-collagen (optional)

-local honey or monk fruit extract (optional)

How to make it:

-Take 1 tsp of matcha powder and put it directly into your mug. Add a small amount of room temperature water to your mug and stir vigorously until you create a dark green paste

-Add 2 cups of milk to your saucepan and heat up slowly

-Pour your milk of choice into the mug and stir well. A small hand foamer could be a nice addition here to ensure it blends well

-Add 1 scoop of collagen or a small amount of sweeter as desired

-ENJOY!

*A note on alternative milks:

I have found that oat milk is simply the best option with matcha. I have tried almond, coconut and hemp will and I found them to be too thin and to have too strong of a flavor. Oat milk is much thicker and seems to round out the matcha flavor really, really well. You can find oat milk at most health food stores or you can easily make your own at home.
