Take the First Step to Get Closer to Your Dreams
Wherever you're at in life, can you ask yourself this question ~
What can I do right now to get a little bit closer to my dreams?
So often our dreams feel so distant and far away. The epic home on the ocean or abundance of cash in our pocket feel like a far away dream. Or perhaps in moments of grief and sadness, the thought of being joyful, expansive and at peace feel unfamiliar and distant.
Stop what you're doing for a moment and ask yourself what some of your deepest dreams are in this world. To write a book? Travel to a magical place? Get married to the love of your life? Find a limitless well of joy within you?
After you've deterred what your greatest desire(s) really is, it's time to establish what you can do right now in this very moment to get a little bit closer to that reality. Because the truth is, this reality is not nearly as distant as you think.
Last month I attended a powerful event in Los Angeles, CA and had such an expansive and empowering time connecting with so many like-minded people. After proclaiming my love for LA, Santa Monica and the beach, each and every person looked at me and told me to move there if that's what my heart wanted.
The more I've sat with that idea, the more longing I feel. And while living in Santa Monica and paying $5,000 a month in rent sounds a bit far into the future, I asked myself what I can do right here, right now, to get closer to that reality.
I have made the decision and dedication to go to LA once a month for the next year to be around these new friends, be on the beach, train with amazing teachers and of course, enjoy all of the amazing restaurants in the area. A quick flight from Salt Lake City each month is much more doable than packing up my life and moving right now, so I'm trusting in that.
Perhaps by the end of the year, there will be a clear path outlined for me to take the step forward and move there. Or perhaps I'll be redirected.
So if you are dreaming of a new and amazing home, but it's currently out of your budget to upgrade that much, perhaps there's a happy middle ground. Move into a home that is within your budget but upgrades your life.
If you are dreaming of travel, ask yourself what you can do right now to get closer to that. Perhaps taking long weekend trips where you live will satiate your wanderlust until an expensive plane ticket becomes a possibility.
