Letting Go of the Past to Move Forward

Healing is such a powerful experience and while it is not easy, it offers so much transformation. With this New Year and the many stories I've heard from women through retreats and events, it's clear to me that so many of us have been lugging around things from the past and have found ourselves at a difficult point in life. Some women have described this place as feeling stuck, unmotivated, uncreative or disempowered.

It is the place we arrive at when we are beginning to live in alignment with our soul path and yet something from the past continues to weigh us down.

So how do we let go of the past and the old things that weigh on us so that we can move forward as inspired, empowered, connected human beings?

"We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us."

- Joseph Campbell

Here is the process that is working for many women, including myself ~

One) Take Inventory of your Life

Be willing to analyze your life and the things that feel heavy on your shoulders. It may be an old story, a past partner, guilt, shame or fear. Whatever it may be, ask yourself if carrying this experience supports you. Is holding onto this supporting you in becoming who you are destined to be?

Two) Forgive Yourself and Others

If it feels right, extend forgiveness to yourself. Forgive yourself for the things you did and did not do. Honor the fact that you did the best you could at the time and that it's now time to move forward. Extend forgiveness to those that have hurt you or betrayed you. This is a powerful step in moving on.

Three) Ask Yourself the Powerful Question

As you reflect on these experiences, people or things, ask yourself this powerful question: Does holding onto this disempower me or empower me? Honor the first thing that arises for you and trust that. If remaining connected to an old friend that does not have your best interest in mind disempowers you, it's time to step back.

Four) Be Willing to Let Go

If you find that something no longer brings you joy or inspiration, it may be time to end the connection. Remember that it is not cruel or unkind to have strong boundaries. Let go of the things that hold you back so that new space can be created.

As you let go and create space, you are setting yourself up for a life that is in alignment with your greatest dreams. Remember that as you move through this powerful healing process.

You are supported.

In gratitude,
