The Healing Benefits of Oil Pulling and Why This is a Part of my Morning Routine


Oil pulling is a healing practice that has recently become very popular! While it is a practice rooted in ancient Ayurvedic wisdom, people all of the world are beginning to add this practice into their regular routine.

What it is~

Oil pulling is simply taking a tablespoon of coconut or sesame oil and swishing in the mouth for up to twenty minutes. Usually done before brushing your teeth, oil pulling can be a really lovely morning routine as you get ready for the day. I personally prefer coconut oil but sesame oil is a gently warming oil so it can be nice to use especially in colder winter months.

Why it's Healing~

Oil pulling has many health benefits. Some of these include strengthening the enamel, whitening the teeth, supporting gum health and supporting healthy bacteria in the mouth. This practice has been done for hundreds of years and is now just catching on in the West!

I've noticed huge changes in the health of my mouth since oil pulling regularly. My teeth are less sensitive to cold or hot drinks, my teeth are whiter and a specific tooth that had been bothering me is now pain free!

Of course, it's still important to see a dentist regularly. Oil pulling does not replace regular medical care.

How to do it~

Step 1: Purchase a high quality organic coconut oil or sesame oil

Step 2: Take a spoon and scoop out a tbsp or so of oil and put in mouth

Step 3: Swish the oil in your mouth for 15 to 20 minutes, making sure you don't swallow the oil

Step 4: When you are ready to spit it out, spit it into the toilet or trash (not the sink! You may block your pipes if you spit it into the sink)

Step 5: Brush your teeth afterwards

Repeat daily!
