How to Make Your Own Homemade Healing Bone Broth

Bone broth is perhaps one of the most healing foods on earth. Cultures all over the world have consumed bone broth for thousands of years and viewed it as a medicine.

And now, bone broth is gaining popularity once again!

You've likely heard someone talk about broth and the healing benefits and so I'm excited to share with you how to make bone broth at home! Not only is broth incredibly simple to make, but it's also much cheaper to make your own than to buy broth at the store.

But first, what are the benefits of consuming broth?

Bone broth is known for:

-containing healthy fats that support hormone balance

-supporting gut health

-helping to protect joint health

-healing the digestive system

-boosting detoxification

-providing vital minerals to the body

-supporting hair, skin and nail health

-boosting the immune system

-supporting healthy metabolism

-containing healthy collagen

-containing glutamine, a vital amino acid

And those are just some of the healing benefits!

So how do you make this healing broth? Let's dive in!

How to make your own homemade Bone Broth:

You'll need:

-a crock pot

-5 or so organic beef bones or a chicken carcass

-apple cider vinegar

-optional: veggie scraps

How to make it:

-Place the chicken carcass or beef bones into the crock pot and then fill the crock pot with purified water

-Add a cap full of apple cider vinegar (this helps to pull minerals from the bones and into the water)

-Add in veggie scraps if desired (these will be filtered out before consuming)

-Turn crock pot on and cook on low for 12 hours for chicken bones and 24 - 36 hours for beef bones

-When the broth is done cooking, strain out bones and veggie scraps

-Pour broth into glass mason jars to store

-Enjoy!!

There are some different things you can do with your finished broth. You can put the broth in a pan on the stove and add salt, pepper, turmeric, thyme and other spices and drink like tea. Or, you can add in sliced carrots, onions and celery and turn into a yummy soup.

You can also cook your rice in broth to add more nutrition or blend broth with steamed veggies for a delicious soup.

There are so many things you can do with your broth!

A note on packaged broth at the store:

While you can purchase bone broth in a container at the grocery store, this broth has far less health benefits. If you want to truly enjoy the health benefits of bone broth, you must make your own!

At some health food stores you can find frozen organic bone broth. While this would be far more nutritive than the boxed kind on the shelf, this broth is incredibly expensive and is still not as healing as the broth you can make at home. If you can, make your own!

I hope this has been helpful for you!

In good health,

Cassandra Wilder N.D.
